How can I receive SfEPLine messages in digest form?

If you go for the digest option, you can receive your SfEPLine messages in batches of up to 25 messages, conveniently arranged into different threads (topics). To get the digest:

This method can really reduce the amount of email you get. However, going the digest route means that you will always experience a delay in getting SfEPLine messages, and this may seriously reduce the immediacy of the medium.

Why can't I send messages when I can receive them?

This usually means you're sending email from an address other than the one at which you receive email and Yahoo! Groups does not recognise it.

How do I reply offline to someone who has sent an email to SfEPLine?

It depends on which email software you are using. Some programs produce a list of possible email addresses when you click on 'Reply'; this list will usually contain both the SfEPLine address and the address of the person who has sent the email. Other programs give you the choice of 'Reply to group' or 'Reply to sender'. In either case, simply click on the correct alternative.

If you are reading SfEPLine on the Yahoo Groups page, things are different still. Go to the 'TO' box above the one in which you are going to type your reply. You'll see the SfEPLine address already in there, but if you click on the little downward arrow next to it, this will bring up other possible addresses, including that of the person you want to reply to and that of the list owner.

If your email program doesn't give you any of these options, or if you are getting the digest, you will need to find out the sender's personal email address – it should appear somewhere within the SfEPLine message – and paste it into the 'TO' line yourself.

Can I post job ads?

If you are an associate or a member and personally have work that you need to subcontract, or if you know of a client who is looking for a freelance for a specific job, you may ask on SfEPLine, SfEPLegal or SfEPMedical.

Corporate associates can advertise for both freelances and in-house staff on SfEPAnnounce – which reaches the entire membership – up to three times in one subscription year. Ordinary and advanced members can advertise on SfEPAnnounce for free for freelances only, but without limit. All free advertisements for SfEPannounce should be sent to and they will be forwarded to the list.

If you know of a company – which is not an SfEP corporate associate – that would like to find in-house staff or freelances in general, please ask them to contact the SfEP Office. The company can then take out a paid ad on SfEPAnnounce. This helps our finances and also reaches twice as many people as does SfEPLine.

I love SfEPLine, but I don't love the postings that aren't about work. Is there a solution?

Yes. You can subscribe to SfEPLine_NT, a service devised and run by SfEP member John Marsden, the Society's webspinner, which delivers a filtered version of the normal SfEPLine digest. Appropriately tagged 'non-work' postings to SfEPLine are identified and removed, and the remaining content is assembled into a digest and delivered to subscribers. To find out more, please visit the SfEPLine_NT FAQ page on John's Aibidil website.

Unfortunately SfEPLine_NT is not available at the moment.

What is the difference between SfEPLine and SfEPAnnounce?

SfEPLine is a lively discussion email list to which members and associates of the SfEP can subscribe and which is run on the Yahoo! Groups website. It has just under 500 members.

The SfEPAnnounce email list, which runs on a different system, is used for official announcements from the council and the SfEP Office, who are the only people who can post messages on it. The latter can include adverts from companies looking for staff or freelances (these adverts are free for corporate associates). All members and associates with an email address are added to SfEPAnnounce when they join the Society. As a result, SfEPAnnounce messages now reach more than 90% of the membership.
