Training

Training director

One of the major aims of the SfEP is to help editorial freelances and in-house staff to improve and develop their skills. SfEP courses cater for the whole range of experience, from beginners to established editors who need to update and extend their existing skills.

The Society also runs a mentoring scheme for those who have already completed some training in proofreading and/or copy-editing.

Attending training courses and taking part in mentoring can count towards ordinary and advanced member status (see Structure). There's also a specially designed course that prepares candidates for the SfEP accreditation test in proofreading.

Every new associate receives two £20 vouchers, one of which can be put towards the cost of any SfEP training course in each of the first two years after joining. If you wish to use a voucher when booking a course, please directly.

Locations

Most courses are run on a regular basis in London, with others being organised less frequently in Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Taunton and York. By arrangement, courses can be run at suitable venues anywhere.

Arrangements for all training courses are handled by , Apsley House, 176 Upper Richmond Road, London SW15 2SH, t: 020 8785 6155.

The SfEP provides tailored in-house training to both conventional publishers and non-publishing organisations such as local authorities, statutory bodies, service providers and businesses.

'The SfEP is the best thing since sliced bread … I've found the training and resources offered by the SfEP to be invaluable, while the support and camaraderie among members in online forums, and now on social networking sites, is priceless.'  Averill Buchanan
